About SkillCraft Productions LLC

Empowering individuals and families with knowledge, skills, and confidence

Our Philosophy

"The Trail, the Mountain, and the Star"

SkillCraft Productions Logo - The Trail, Mountain, and Star

Our logo embodies this foundational philosophy. The trail winding upward represents your journey of continuous growth. The mountain symbolizes the unique challenges each person faces. And the star above guides your direction—orienting you toward truth and better decisions. When you see our logo, remember: it's not where you started or where you are—it's whether you're still moving forward.

🥾

The Trail

The trail represents your journey—the path of continuous learning, growth, and becoming. It is not straight; it switchbacks, climbs, sometimes doubles back. The trail is walked one step at a time, one day at a time, one decision at a time.

⛰️

The Mountain

The mountain represents challenges and goals unique to each person. Your mountain is not my mountain. Some start from a higher base camp; others begin in the valley. The mountain does not care about fairness. It simply is.

The Star

Above the mountain shines a star—representing ultimate truth, the way things actually are. We will never reach it, but that is not the point. The star orients us. It tells us which direction is forward. Without it, we wander in circles.

What We Believe

Where You Start Does Not Define You

We all begin at different points. Some inherit advantages; others inherit obstacles. Your starting point is not your fault, and it is not your achievement. What matters is not where you started.

Where You Are Does Not Define You

Your current position—whether you have climbed far or are still near the base—does not determine your worth. Some are ahead because they started higher. Some faced harder terrain. What matters is not where you are.

What Defines You Is Moving Forward

The only question that matters: Are you taking the next step? Are you oriented toward the star? Direction, not position, is what counts. A person who started in privilege but stopped climbing is not ahead of someone still moving.

You Are the Sum of Your Daily Decisions

Character is not a single dramatic choice—it is the accumulation of thousands of small ones. Each day you cast votes for the person you are becoming. The compound effect of daily decisions is who you become.

Education Is the Path to Better Decisions

Learning matters because it improves the quality of your daily decisions. The educated person sees more clearly, recognizes manipulation, understands consequences. Better decisions compound into a better life.

The Star Guides Every Decision

Every decision should be evaluated against the star: Does this move me toward truth, or away from it? Does this choice align with reality as it actually is, or with reality as I wish it were?

Chad Tiller - Founder, SkillCraft Productions LLC

Our Mission

SkillCraft Productions exists to help you take the next step on your trail—wherever you are on the mountain. We believe that who you become is the sum of your daily decisions, and that better skills lead to better decisions. Through hands-on training in Life Skills, Security, Outdoor Skills, and Emergency Preparedness, we equip you with practical capabilities that compound over time—making you more confident, more capable, and more resilient. Founded by Special Forces veteran and physician assistant Chad Tiller, our courses go beyond techniques: we develop the character, competence, and clarity that makes you a better spouse, parent, friend, citizen, and leader. It's not where you started. It's not where you are. It's whether you're still moving forward.

Owner/Instructor

Chad Tiller started from humble beginnings and worked his way to becoming a successful professional. This progression—from where he started to where he is today—showed him the profound value of personal growth. After 20 years of service as a Green Beret, Chad retired as a Senior Special Forces Sergeant. He currently works as a physician assistant in urgent care and has taught diverse audiences—from US and foreign military personnel to paramedics, medical students, and civilian first responders—covering subjects ranging from military tactics, counter-terrorism, tactical combat casualty care and emergency medicine. Chad founded SkillCraft Productions LLC to help others experience this same transformative growth. We teach the skills; through dedicated practice, you develop the craft. Chad remains a humble, lifelong student, believing that personal growth never stops.

Safe Place

The Art of Civil Discourse

Not a safe space from ideas — a safe place for all of them.

Americans have forgotten how to talk to each other. Research shows we don't just disagree anymore — we've stopped seeing the other side as fellow citizens. Both sides dramatically overestimate how extreme the other actually is. The result? Broken Thanksgiving tables, fractured communities, and a country that can't solve problems because it can't have a conversation.

Safe Place is SkillCraft Productions' answer. It's a monthly, in-person forum where a small group of people — no more than 12 — sit in the same room and have real conversations about the issues that matter most. No cameras. No social media. No gotcha moments. Just honest, structured dialogue guided by a trained facilitator with ground rules that protect every voice in the room.

This isn't about changing your mind. It's about understanding why the person across from you thinks the way they do — and discovering you have more in common than your newsfeed wants you to believe.

What to Expect:

  • Small group (max 12), ideologically diverse by design
  • 90–120 minute facilitated sessions on a single topic
  • Ground rules that keep it civil: attack ideas, never people
  • A pre-session fact sheet so everyone starts with shared information
  • Confidential — what's said in the room stays in the room

Who It's For:

Anyone tired of shouting past each other and ready to try something different. No political affiliation required — just a willingness to listen as hard as you talk.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about our training programs

What experience level do I need for your courses?
Most of our courses are designed for beginners with no prior experience. Each course description specifies any prerequisites or recommended experience levels. Our instructors tailor the content to accommodate participants of varying skill levels within the same class.
Where are courses held?
All courses are held at one of our two United Tae Kwon Do Academy locations in Chapel Hill/Carrboro, NC. The only exception is wilderness practical exercises for outdoor skills courses, which are held at appropriate outdoor locations. Specific course locations are confirmed upon registration.
What is your refund policy?
Full refunds are granted for cancellations made more than 14 days before the scheduled course date. Cancellations within 14 days of the course are non-refundable. Please see our Privacy Policy & Terms for complete details.
What should I bring to a course?
Requirements vary by course. Generally, wear comfortable clothing appropriate for physical activity. For outdoor courses, we'll provide a detailed gear list upon registration. For self-defense classes, athletic wear and bare feet or clean indoor shoes are recommended.
Do you offer group or corporate training?
Yes! We offer custom training programs for businesses, organizations, churches, and community groups. Contact us to discuss your specific needs and we'll develop a tailored curriculum for your group.
Are courses suitable for teenagers?
Many of our courses welcome participants ages 13 and up (with parental consent for minors). The FREE Introductory Personal Defense Course is designed for ages 13+, and the Situational Awareness course is for ages 15+. Check individual course descriptions for age requirements.
Can I take photos or videos during courses?
Photography and video recording are only permitted with the express consent of the instructor. Please ask before the course begins if you'd like to document any portion for personal use.
How do I know which course is right for me?
We recommend starting with our introductory courses in each area of interest: FREE Introductory Personal Defense Course for security, Outdoors 101 for outdoor skills, or Learning & Self Development Workshop I for life skills. Contact us and we'll help you find the best starting point based on your goals.
Do courses need to be taken in a specific order?
Some courses build on each other and should be taken sequentially. For example, Basic Survival I should be completed before Basic Survival II, and Land Navigation I before Land Navigation II. Course descriptions and Roman numerals (I, II, III) indicate when sequential completion is recommended. Introductory courses like Outdoors 101, Situational Awareness, and Learning & Self Development Workshop I can be taken at any time without prerequisites.
